The Big Roar does what it says on the tin and does not disappoint with its epic crescendos that accelerate and crash with raucous energy. It’s hard to believe that such grandiose is produced by a little trio, led by the gusty, sugar-coated singer and guitarist, Ritzy Bryan. The album is a progressive trinity of shoegazing, dreampop and grunge, which ambitiously revives retro delights of My Bloody Valentine and Catherine Wheel. What is distinctive about this album is the way the melancholy mood and haunting sweetness is short-lived by the boisterous backdrop of pounding drums, heavy baselines and layer-fused guitars.
