Bjork-“Biophilia”

(Released September 27th 2011)

Bjork yet again dances to the beat of her own drum and pushes boundaries with her eighth solo album, “Biophilia”. Quite often an artist is in danger of releasing an album which is stylistically over-produced, but in Bjork’s case I think “Biophilia” is  over-conceptualised.  Lyrically the album is abstract and complex but perhaps trying to condense a whole science curriculum into a minimalist soundscape. Notably Bjork’s voice is hoarse in places, yet it still remains her greatest instrument. Musically there are moments of Industrial mayhem, and Clannad-esque harmonies which soar against the pendulum harps, gameleste and harpsichords.  It’s a modern piece of art, a spontaneous music class, sounding a million light years away from “Debut”, illustrating the evolution of Bjork. Like an erratic star, Biophilia travels independently through the universe, shinning in all it’s celestial wonder.

  1. I like this album but I don’t think it’s her best. Great review by the way!
