Single of the Week – “Fools Parade” by The Rivertairs

Comprised of Sheep on vocals/guitar, Tom on vocals/guitar, Rev on vocals/bass and Ryan on drums, The Rivertairs are an alternative rock band from Oldham, Greater Manchester, whose live performances are quickly gaining them a loyal fan base. Having recently supported 90s band Space at FAC nightclub, The Rivertairs have been working on their forthcoming EP and their demo Fools Parade has been nominated as my Single of the Week.

Fools Parade is a song which does what it says on the tin, a sort of all guns blazing catharsis  whose lovelorn lyrics synchronise with the rolling and jangly riffs.  It’s a fast mover, a foot tapper that bobs about with its bouncy beats and backing harmonies. Sounding like an acidic Mersey beat song on a dark night, Fools Parade jams with a no nonsense bravado, whilst customised with circus macabre synths. It’s a spiller of a song,  cramming in a roller-coaster of emotions in a good few minutes. With the help of a few looping riffs and shuffle beats along the way, Fools Parade, quietly loosens before it reminds you of its hardcore sentiments, through its stomping interludes. With close encounters with The Arctic Monkeys and The Coral, Fools Parade is one of those songs which is swept away by its guitar-laden soundscape and is pushed to the forefront by its angst and disdain.
