On the Radar: The Newds

The Newds are an alternative rock band from Bolton, whose catchy and sentimental songs are steeped in nostalgia, meloncholy and British homegrown humour. With Paul Meagher on vocals/guitar, Dean Woods on guitars, Tony Sabanskis on keyboard and Daniel Gathwright (Corporate Vinnie) on drums, The Newds are a band which emits a  kitchen-sink art-pop narrative, a sort of celebratory take on the daily mundanities of life.

A mixed bag, The Newds are a versatile band that bridges the gaps between the boy meets girl sentiments of the 60s, the  riotous post-punk era of the late 70s and the radio-friendly post-Brit-pop sounds of today. They are an entertaining band whose  farfisa stomps, jagged riffs, moody undergrowth, up-tempo beats and festival friendly choruses makes them an interesting and engaging band. After playing locally and at the Pop Overthrow Festival in Liverpool, The Newds have been busy working on their debut album, which is released in September 2014.
