Roosevelt Room are an alternative rock band from Blackburn whose robust sound strobelights from the darkness and shines through the shimmering riffs. They are a great band whose distinctive vocals antagonise against the assault of riffs and ghostly drones. Not a one-trick pony, Roosevelt Room are also purveyors of folk-rock, whose stripped down acoustics delineates their nimble-fingered skills. With Ben on vocal/guitar, Alex on bass, Jordon on guitar and Mick on drums, Roosevelt Room sound like distant cousins of Gomez and The Kooks, whose dirty riffs reside in murkier waters. With a host of gigs in May and June, Roosevelt Room have been busy working on their debut EP and whose single “Loose Lips” has been selected as my “Single of the Week”.
With the gravelly vocals and weather beaten lyrics, “Loose Lips” wistfully ponders from its rugged soundscape. It’s a melancholic number, which is drenched in sorrow and whose acoustic and jangly riffs reverberate against the plodding bass. Along with quivering and spectral backing vocals, “Loose Lips” creates an eerie backdrop that is abandoned through the crashing cymbals and glockenspiel beats. It’s a great song which speaks from the soul, and without a doubt places “Roosevelt Room” on the list of bands to check out live.
