Twelve A.M Flowers are an alternative rock and baroque band who hail from New York , whose accessible and sophisticated songs gush with an array of emotion that streams across the melancholic musings. With Kevin McGinnis on vocals/guitars, Brendan Moynihan on bass and Drew Thomas on drums, Twelve A.M. Flowers are very much your accomplished band, whose poetic and lovelorn lyrics revivify McGinnis’s aching vocals. As a singer, McGinnis oozes an intensity that seethes beneath the aching riffs. Now, following the success of their classically infused album, “Curiously Immortal”, Twelve A.M. Flowers are back with a more guitar-laden sound, proving McGinnis’s diversity with their dual single releases of “Dark Rose” and “A Luxury Squeeze”. Taken from their forthcoming album “Bright Young Neighbour Star”, both singles are a credit to the band and have subsequently given me the opportunity to nominate “A Luxury Squeeze” as my single of the week.
With its crashing riffs and pounding beats, “A Luxury Squeeze” scrambles and swerves on a bustling free-way. Along with the subtle synths and reverberating riffs, “A Luxury Squeeze”, exudes a stadium ambience likened to U2 and New Order. It’s a kick–ass song which doesn’t beat around the bush and whose sorrow is swept away from the colliding riffs. Vocally smooth, McGinnis sings with a reserved melancholy which synchronises impeccably against the intricate soundscape. Lyrically layered, “A Luxury Squeeze” is both narrative and obscured with emotion. Lyrics such as “So this is over, it’s over again”, just about sums up the sentiments of the song, whilst being air-lifted by the scrapey riffs that angle-grind and slam against the synthetic fuzz.
