“The Silent Union” are an alternative rock, folk band from Leicester, whose exquisite songs resonate with emotion and leave a trail of dreamy mist. Whilst other folk bands narrate about earthy observations, there is something elusive and almost ethereal about “The Silent Union”. With Jay Tennant on vocals, Dale Townsend on guitar and Matt Abercrombie on drums, “The Silent Union” are a testament to how well accomplished lyrics can synchronise with an unravelling soundscape. Although their songs at first glance appear acoustically stripped, it’s the subtle undertow of pianos and shimmering guitars that cement “The Silent Union” as an intense and poetic band.
Having released their EP in August 2012, “The Silent Union” showcase their musical talents with the infectious “Hurricane” and the sublime “Deliverance”. Such songs are both impressive as standalone songs and collectively showcase the exemplary lyrics and chimerical riffs featured on the EP. Lyrics such as: “See the seasons change all these darkened days have taken your innocence...” (Hurricane) encapsulates the haunting beauty of “The Silent Union” and their meticulous skill at crafting a song.
With shades of Starsalior’s James Walsh and Richard Ashcroft, Tennant’s voice is powerfully exposed, yet quietly composed. As a front-man Tennant commands the songs, allowing his powerful voice to soar and curl around the musical landscape, hallmarking him as very much the bona-fide, charismatic frontman.
