Single of the Week- “Never Be Replaced” by Staged Fate

Staged Fate is a guitar infused dream-pop act from Copenhagen, consisting solely of the enigmatic Patrick. Despite being influenced by a host of new wave and indie bands such as Joy Division, XX, Beach House and The Cure, Staged Fate remains a progressive and contemporary act. As a singer, Patrick has one of those voices which transcends a cool but emotive quality and synchronises with the intricate and captivating music.

With its opening staccato strumming, “Never Be Replaced”, conveys a reflective mood that is captured in almost a “time-lapsed” motion . It’s a low-key emotional journey, whose bare vocals appear aloof in its wistful stance. It’s an exquisitely crafted song, whose sentiments cascade through the spacious soundscape and crystallised in the thought-provoking lyrics. Lyrics such as: “Lost inside your dream. When I close my eyes. Step inside, I’m here”, illustrate Patrick’s skill as a talented and pensive songwriter. It’s through the union of the spectral E-Bow and curving riffs that “Never Be Replaced” emits a haunting beauty, that unravels an intangible sensuality . It’s an understated, mesmerizing song, which firmly puts Staged Fate on the Manc Review radar.
