Frett are an electro-guitar infused duo from Suffolk, whose fresh, original and contemporary songs hallmark that new wave of bands that master the art of understated melancholy through its impeccable and shrouded soundscape. With Simon Lucas-Hughes on vocals and guitar and Elliott Buckle on synths, Frett are an impressive band, whose fluidity and experimental sounds is testament of making music that isn’t cliched or fixed, but a stream of cerebral and evolving sounds. Having released two EPs, Frett have been busy working on their third EP and appearing on Radio 1 and Kerrang Radio. Appearing on X-FM, on Friday 13th September, Frett are quickly getting noticed locally and further a field and whose song “Bridge Supplies” has been nominated as my Single of the week.
“Bridge Supplies” is a sublime, contemporary electronica masterpiece, whose backdrop of angelic female backing vocals creates an ethereal ambience against the magnitude of meteoric sounds. It’s a brilliant song, whose droning bass, helium synths and shuffle beats slither and prowl against the elongated and electro-infused dual vocals. Significantly it’s the haunting melancholy etched in Hughes’ individual voice, which adds to the emotional motif of the song, providing a still presence against the seething chaos. It’s through the quivering and shaky riffs, animated splodges and rattle percussions that “Bridge Supplies” glides with spiked wheels towards a volatile vortex. It’s through the epic out-tro, that the all consuming fusion of riffs and synths merge and antagonise, creating an assault course of superb musicianship and burning intensity.
