Escalator by FLDPLN - The Manc Review

“Escalator” is a trippy, chilled fusion of dance, hip-hop, synth-pop, sophisti-pop and trance whose collective of upbeat and euphoric tracks is the perfect LP to relax and feel at one with the world. A talented artist, FLDPLN (Andrew Saks, formerly of Sway) is based in Phoenix, revives the synth-pop soundscapes of New Wave and sugarcoats with a lineage of ambient alterations and translucent transfigurations. Immaculately produced, “Escalator” creates an atmospheric, abstract, succinct package of electronica, whose subtle nuances and cinematic commentary is reminiscent of ambient House of the late 80s and early 90s. Along with the flickering synths and temperate tones, “Escalator” is an album, that draws on past influences whilst producing a fresh and contemporary new sound.

Like a piece of art-pop rolled out in a piece of music, “Escalator” is an LP that dips into the pastel colours of ambient-pop and interweaves with the textures of dreampop and shoegazing. It’s a tranquiliser of tension and a sedater of stress, that offers a retreat away from the hustle and bustle of life. It’s also an LP that is quietly nostalgic and whose vocal delivery takes an Urban backflip to the baggy sounds of the early 90s.
