EP Of The Week -“Machines For Living” by The Persian Leaps

The Persian Leaps are an alternative rock act from Minneapolis, whose catchy, anthemic and modest music, goes back to the roots of guitar-laden music and creates a lo-fi ambience. Comprised of Drew Forsberg – on vocals, guitars, keyboards, bass and drum programming, The Persian Leaps is a modest maestro whose melodic hooks, crunchy strums and racing riffs are reminiscent of The Teenage Fanclub, R.E.M, The Queens Of The Stone Age, delivered with a nonchalant and elongated delivery likened to The Manic Street Preachers. Along with the power pop harmonies, The Persian Leaps echo the surf sensibility of 60s rock, whilst reviving the jangle-rock of the early 90s.

Following the success of their album “Drone Etiquette”, released in October 2021, The Persian Leaps have been busy in the studio and whose latest EP “Machines For Living” has been selected as The Manc Review’s “EP of The Week”. Released 7th October 2022, via Land Ski Music, Machines For Living is a catalogue of shimmery strums and succinct sonics that oscillate smoothly on the rugged roads of alternative rock. It’s a relay of halcyon harmonies and impeccable vocals that fly the flawless flag of post-punk. It’s college music that’s graduated and stood the test of time, making it a familiar, nostalgic and enjoyable EP.

Alright Alright nonchalantly stomps and swerves across the soundscape of alternative rock and tinkles in the fast lane of honky tonk blues. It’s a fastmoving track, that drives the gritty gateways of post-punk, and harmonises in the side-lines of power pop. It’s a direct route to Americana, whilst zig-zagging in the headlights of jangly-rock.

Maybe Time Will Let Me Forget jangles from the heart of post-punk and elevates to the wistful heights of new wave. It’s a catchy track, whose vocal delivery relays in the realms of powerpop and whose interval of stripped-down acoustics, is reminiscent of a golden age of sweet melodicism.

Lipreader Dyslexia elongates and stomps in the arena of stadium rock, whilst curving in the sidelines of new wave. It’s an immaculate production that intermixes the rough with the smooth and harmonises with polished precision.

Beautiful Inside jangles in the fuzzbox of Indie rock and rattles in the closet of rockabilly. It’s an infectious track that curves harmonies with ease, aside the raucous riffs.

The Nicest Way shimmers in the nightfall of alt-country and broods in the shadows of neo-blues. It’s an array of alternating riffs, that float above the crunch curves, creating a fusion of jangly jolts. Along with the pristine vocals and power-pop harmonies, The Nicest Way revives the post-punk aesthetic of college rock.

As of October 7, the ‘Machines For Living’ EP will be available across online platforms, including Apple Music, Spotify and Bandcamp.
