Gramercy Arms are a NYC collective, whose members have consisted of Kevin March (Guided by Voices, Shudder to Think, The Dambuilders), Doug Gillard (Guided by Voices, Nada Surf, Cobra Verde, Death of Samantha), Sean Eden (Luna), Mark Lizotte (Diesel), Phoebe Summersquash (Small Factory), Rainy Orteca (Joan As Police Woman, Dead Air), Renée LoBue (Elk City, Flowers of America), Kendall Meade (Mascott), Verena Wiesendanger (Semi Gloss), Claudia Chopek (Bright Eyes, The Little River Band, Echo of the Ghost), John Leon (Roky Erickson, Royal Arctic Institute), Rafa Maciejak (Lloyd Cole and the Negatives, Ivy), Hilken Mancini (Fuzzy, the Monsieurs, Punk Rock Aerobics), Richard Alwyn-Fisher (King Canutes, The Winter Drinks), Mike Errico, Steve Hurley (Gigolo Aunts), Lysa Opfer (Aeon Station), Carl Baggaley (Elk City, Royal Arctic Institute), Peter Hess (Phillip Glass Ensemble, Slavic Soul Party), Jessie Kilguss and Gary Burton (Dovedale).
They are an ever-evolving line-up, whose music is an intermix of happy-going observations and romantic muses. They are a full-on affair, that jangles in jubilance and wallows under the clouds of dark romanticism. Immaculately produced and wistfully windswept, Gramercy Arms are purveyors of quality and class, whose plucky strums and pristine vocals, create a compelling wave of guitar-laden music. It’s music that is reminiscent of Big Star, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne, and Elvis Costella, whilst remaining centre stage with their individual brand of creativity.
Taken from their forthcoming “Deleted Scene” LP, (scheduled for release via the Magic Door Record Label in early 2023) “Yesterday’s Girl” is a “bittersweet remembrance of love lost and friendship regained.” It’s the first single released from the LP and has been selected as the Manc Review’s “Single Of Day”.
Co-written by Lloyd Cole and Dave Derby, “Yesterday’s Girl” goes back to the basics of folk-rock and lays bare its sentimental soul. It’s a pensive breeze of alt-country that tinkles under the luminance of neo-blues and resonates under the skylines of Indie-pop. Through the duality of vocals Dave Derby and Renée Lo Bue (Elk City, Flowers of America) Yesterday’s Girl create a nostalgic trip down memory lane, that reminsces in the shadows and smoulders in the back streets of Americana.
Pristine and infectious, Yesterday’s Girl is an instant like, a foot-tapping sing along that walks down the avenue of youth, with a warm glow in its heart.
