Single of the Week -“L.O.E.W” by The Autumn Processional

The Autumn Processional is a solo music project by Chris Cooper, whose ambient dream-pop music incorporates a fusion of  jazz, synth-pop and psychedelia. Based in Salford, The Autumn Processional is definitely on the radar and his  fluidity of experimental sounds, benchmarks him as an original and contemporary act.  As a production, Chris has really mastered his craft, making the most of his skilful guitar playing, songwriting and controlled, free-ranging vocals. Sounding a cross between Radiohead’s Tom Yorke and The Beloved’s John Marsh, Chris has one of those voices which is etched in cool melancholy, whilst trailing a slender sensuality through its soaring tones. Now busy in the studio, Chris has drafted in Sam Jones on bass/vox and Ryan Jessop on piano, cornets, drums and percussions to create the divine and lush “L.O.E.W”.

L.O.E.W is an amazing song, a sort of voyageristic cabaret of ethereal jazz. It’s the sound of the future, a hazy wake-up call of what’s around the corner. It’s a sublime song which sees Cooper’s falsetto voice soar and resonate against the seductive and dream-pop soundscape. Despite the textured, dizzy, distracting and dreamy whirl of sounds, Cooper really stands his ground emitting an intangible, captivating presence. With its dragging digital beeps, collapsing drums, rattle shakes, tap and clash percussion , L.O.E.W showcases its experimental ambience likened to Portishead and Massive Attack. Along with its waves of ghostly “Ahhh” and subtle Hammond organ, L.O.E.W depicts a haunting beauty that streams across the cocktail bar sophistication, creating a vaporous ambience. It’s a breath of fresh air, which is characterised by his vortex of travelling, bobbing  cornets  which spin in juxtaposition against the distant pitter-patter pianos and singular rotating riffs. With its solemn bass, crashing and reverberating riffs “L.O.E.W” revolts against the undertow of discord, creating a capricious  crescendo amongst the chaos.
