Brooklyn-based underground music veterans Jarvis Earnshaw and Trevor Dunn have been busy in the studio working on their collaborative album, in the moniker known as TRAVIS DUO. It’s an innovative, avant-garde album, “Hypnagogia“, that draws upon the inspiration from abstract concepts, lucid dreams, transitional states and a collective consciousness. Original and diverse, the album is an eclectic range of instrumentals that morph, mutate and emit a fluidity of space-jazz and neo-psychedelica.
Taken from Hypnagogia is their debut single “Hitherto”. As a track, “Hitherto” is an Eastern trip to the neo-psychedelic waters of experimental pop, avant-garde jazz and neo-folk. It’s an abstract work of art, that osmoses from the fluidity of the subconscious, the hidden depths and awakened by its lucid dreams. Think Syd Barrett, Psychic TV, Broadcast meeting the Art Ensemble of Chicago, for an improvised jamming session and you get the idea. It’s a track that thinks outside the box, a lateral loop of quivering cellos, fluttering flutes and concentric sitars, that spellbound, intrigues and chills to the core. It’s a mesmerising track that freestyles with a haunting mysticism that astral-travels between the realms of ethereal ambience and earthy sensuality, whilst drip-feeding from its visceral veins.
The single “Hitherto” and the album “Hypnagogia” are both released on 10th December 2021.
‘Hypnogogia’ will be released as a limited edition of 500 albums on dark blue vinyl. The seven core tracks come with bonus track ‘Lolloping Theta Broom Horse’ and a 16-page full colour booklet. It can be pre-ordered directly from Earnshaw’s own website or via Bandcamp.
