Turning Black Like Lizards are an alternative rock band from The Black Country, whose individualistic and idiosyncratic theatrics makes them an arcane and enigmatic band. With Andy Black on vocals/guitars, Darren on lead guitar, Stuart on bass and backing vocals and Sharp on drums and backing vocals, Turning Black Like Lizards are masters of camouflage and alchemists of art, whose alluring stage presence creates a nocturnal ambience. Like predators of punk, Turning Black Like Lizards prowl beneath the undergrowth of goth-rock, led by their heightened senses and dazed by the haze of neo-psychedelica. They are a band that goes back to the ethos of DIY punk, synchronised with the aesthetics of new wave and cut from the cosmic cloth of acid-rock.
They are a band whose passion, commitment and professional artistry sees no stone unturned, and are masters of producing music which is mind-bending, captivating and soul surrendering. They are a band that swim in the same gene pool as The Jesus and Mary Chain, This Mortal Coil, The Sisters of Mercy, Syd Barrett, Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Psychedelic Furs and Bauhaus, diving deep into the murkiest of depths.
Having toured with Big Country, Spear of Destiny, Inca Babies, The Cravats, UK Subs, The Membranes and Brix and The Extricated, and featured on the Steve LaMacq BBC Radio 6 Show, Turning Black Like Lizards’ popularity is quickly growing and gaining a reputation as a great band and live act. Following the success of their “Spiral Eyes” EP, released in 2019, Turning Black Like Lizards have been busy in the studio working on their debut album “Spectrum”, which is due for release in March 2022.
Taken from “Spectrum” is their new single “24 Hours”, which is a psychotic trip to the dark side. It’s a spine-chiller, an eerie escapade into the gothabilly wilderness that spins from the shadows of neo-psychedelia. It’s a mesmerising track, whose menacing vocals blend into the backdrop of throbbing tinkles, sonic shivers and shudder strums. Along with the trembling tones of the noise-rock riffs, 24 Hours drags you into a murky swamp of subliminal sludge and post-punk pandemonium. Like crepuscular crows screeching from afar, it’s through the abstract synths and vocal theatrics that 24 Hours takes you to a phantasmal place of intrigue and suspense.
