Earnest Moon are a dynamic duo from Liverpool whose distinct music reverberates from the riverbanks of neo-folk and ripples from the new waves of jangly pop. Comprised of Steven Doran and Brian Murphy, Earnest Moon are an enthralling act, whose vocals resonate and consume aside the stripped down acoustics. Pensive and aloof, yet engaging and intense, Earnest Moon dip their toes in the murky waters of melancholy, whilst shining from its incandescence glow. Along with the cascading orchestral sweeps, Earnest Moon soaks in the dark romanticism of neo-classicism, casting shadows from the lunar-light, whilst windswept with emotion. Earnest Moon gleams from the translucent tones of alt-rock, whilst reflecting on the hills of neo-blues. A serene sanctuary of alternative rock, Earnest Moon goes back to the grass roots of Americana, whilst surfing the electrical current of rockabilly. Along with the fleeting dup wop harmonies. Earnest Moon nestles in nostalgia, whilst foot-tapping with its campfire collective.
Since forming in 2017, Ernest Moon have released two EPs, debuting with their ‘Ba-jesus’ EP, recorded at Orphan Recording in Dublin with Peter Ashmore and Gavin Glass (Paul Brady, John Grant, Lisa Hannigan, Mundy),and followed by the electric crack 6-track collection entailed in the ‘UH’ EP, released in 2019 and recorded in Barcelona by Marc Antoli.
An original and compelling act Earnest Moon’s newly anticipated album “’Skipping to Maloo” will be released on 15th June 2022 and whose lead track Unkind has been selected as my Single Of The Day. Released on 3rd June 2022, Unkind is a sublime track that jangles from the torchlights of neo-folk and shines from the skyline of ethereal rock. Through the stripped down acoustics, jangly riffs and orchestral arrangements, Unkind ebbs and flows in the breeze of baroque-rock and conducts from the celestial currents of neo-classism. It’s a hypnotic track, whose mesmeric vocals emit a haunting beauty that lingers with the remnants of experimental rock. Like the long lost brother of Mercury Rev and The Pale Fountains, Unkind croons from the corners of chamber pop, and elevates in a grandiose of subtle symphonic rock. Along with the back tracking of vocals and airy ambience, Unkind ripples in a whirlpool of neo-psychedelia, whilst gazing at the stars.
Unkind may be obtained via Bandcamp, where the ‘Skipping to Maloo’ LP can also be pre-ordered. As of June 15th 2022, “Skipping to Maloo” will be available via all digital platforms including Apple Music and Spotify.
