Single Of The Day - "Amazon" by Rob Munk

Rob Munk is a singer-songwriter, instrumentalist from the US, whose catchy, thought-provoking music is reminiscent of all the great guitar bands that emerged from the late 80s and early 90s. It’s music that goes back to the roots of neo-folk, alt-county, lo-fi, neo-blues, power-pop, Jangly-rock, and chamber-pop and creates an infectious stream of sing along tracks. Delivered with politically infused lyrics, and off beat musings, Munk is an accomplished artist, whose music is warmly nostalgic, emphatic and mastered with impeccable professionalism. Cut from the same cloth as acts such as Pavement, Belle And Sebastian, Teenage Fanclub and Grandaddy, Munk is a master of jangly riffs and insightful observations and whose latest track “Amazon” has been selected as The Manc Review’s “Single Of The Day”.

Taken from his forthcoming album “Phased Out”, released on 18th November 2022, Amazon is a pensive track about the environmental crisis, that quintessential track that tunes you into the frequencies of neo-folk and creates and an increased appreciation of lo-fi rock. Astute and poignant, Amazon is that radio-friendly protest song, that translates our fears about the world into a neatly packaged track. It’s a track that reminds us of Munk’s talent as a songwriter and his skill at creating nimble-fingered tracks, with such meticulous precision. Through the jangly riffs, pulsating beats and smooth harmonies, Amazon is quietly inflamed, whilst delivering with such calm resilience. It’s a great track, that reinforces the collective consciousness of folk-rock, reworking the ethos of punk, whist igniting the combatant spirit of humanity in these uncertain times.
