Single Of The Day - "Lionhearts" by Karamelien

Following the success of her critically acclaimed album ‘How To Weigh A Whale Without A Scale’, (produced by Ride’s Mark Gardener, in 2021) singer songwriter Léanie Kaleido has began a new Indie-pop project Karamelien, with guitarist – Mark Foster.

Based in East Grinstead, Karamlien are a breath of fresh air, whose sugar-coated synths and jangly riffs, trip-hop into the evergreen electronica, likened to Morcheeba, Dido, St Eitenne and Cat Powers. They are eternal optimists, chasing rainbows, under rainy skies and adding a sprinkle of gloss and glitter along the way. In a world of wars, a pandemic and corruption, Karamelien bring a much-needed remedy of soothing sonics, heavenly harmonies in a haven of Zen aesthetics.

Having been busy in the studio, Karamelien have been working on new material and whose latest tracks “Lionhearts” and “Ascension Heights” were produced by Mark Gardener, with Lionhearts being selected by the Manc Review as their “Single Of The Day”.

Lionhearts is an enchanting Indie-pop track, whose lush vocals, jangly riffs and stellar synths, Lionheart roars from the woodland of neo-folk, and harmonies from the ambience of baroque-pop. It’s a dreamy wave of synthpop sensibilities, shuffle beats, swept by the breeze of orchestral pop. Along with the elongated drones and wistful lyrics, Lionhearts is filled with a sunshine optimism, which lifts the spirits and nourishes the soul.

Ascension Heights elevates from the sunny heights of 60s fused folk and is airlifted by the trippy tones of ambient pop. It’s a classically crafted track, that evokes a sense of wonder and Bacharach-esque jubilation. Along with the jangly reverberation and ethereal ambience, Ascension Heights drifts through the chimeral clouds of dreampop, whilst fluttering around the effervescence bubbles of orchestral pop.
