Single Of The Day - "Flames Of Greed" by Dispel

Dispel are an alternative rock trio from Cleveland, whose haunting synths and spellbinding vocals, exhume the deadly aesthetics of classic goth-rock. They are a band that injects new blood into thrash metal, whilst drawing out the old school influences of traditional rock. Ethereal and earthbound, Dispel wallow in the purgatory of post-punk, whilst sinking in the hell-pits of rock. Along with the brooding basslines, spiked riffs and blackened beats, Dispel stay true to the origins of dark-wave and neo-classicism, whilst raising the spirit of musical mythology. They are a band that takes you on a journey of thunderous emotions, eternal escapism and eerie enlightenment whilst strumming in the banshee basements of Industrial rock. Like sorcerers of the soul, Dispel provide a beacon of light in the shadows of gloom-rock.

Comprised of Ravensea (vocals), Sean Gallows (Vocals & Bass) and Scott Dispel (Drums & Keyboards and formerly the drummer for TEXTBEAK), Dispel are rooted in the underground punk scene of the 90s and influenced by the innovation of German Industrial goth. They are the real deal, who ingeniously create music synchronised impeccably with literacy tales and poetic lyrics, laced with spiritual undercurrents. Having been busy in the studio, Dispel have created their conceptional Dante-inspired ‘Inferno’ LP, which is released on 12^th October 2022 and showcases their remarkable single “Flames Of Greed”, which has been selected as my “Single Of The Day”.

Like all the tracks on the album, Flames Of Greed provides a glimpse of medieval mythology, emotionally encased in the realms of mortal sin. A mesmerising track, Flames Of Greed burns and smoulders from the embers of Nu Metal and storms from the dark clouds of goth-metal. It’s a signature tune, that resurrects the remnants of Industrial rock, creating phantomesque imagery and abstract art, governed by the moon and tides of emotion.

Through the sinister synths and menacing drones, Flames Of Greed navigates through the nocturnal avenues of dark-wave. Theatrical and captivating, it’s through the vocals of Ravensea that Flames Of Greed levitates and soars like a Dark Emperor of symphonic rock, creating a backdrop of showstopping sonics. It is through the idiosyncratic vocal delivery that Flames Of Greed holds a vigil down the dark passages of time, whilst floating like an operatic apparition from its ghostly past. A mesmeric and mystical track, Flames of Greed evokes an arcane ambience, that exorcises its demons during the witching hour of goth-rock.
