Vernons Future are an alternative rock band from Liverpool, whose uplifting music beams from the cosmic rays of prog-rock, whilst colliding with the debris of New Wave. They are a chirpy breed of neo-psychedelic, that flutters its wings on the horizon of acid-rock, whilst day-tripping to the sunset of jangly-pop. Like the long-lost love child of The Doors, The Shack, The Kinks and Echo & the Bunnymen, Vernons Future tinkles and shimmers in the subliminal realms of art-rock, whilst taking the odd random excursion to the final frontiers of space-rock. Quirky, idiosyncratic and cinematic, Vernons Future put the pop art back in Indie-rock, creating an intermix of commerical commentary with an art-book of animated aesthestics and anthemic melodies. They are a breath of fresh air, whose foot-tapping “Call To Arms” has been selected as my “Single of the Day”.
Taken from their latest album ,“Aquaplanning” which was released on 7th October 2022, Call To Arms coasts down the sunny embankments of neo-psychedelia, whilst jangling in the shadows of new wave. It’s an infectious track, whose crooning vocals harmonise with the backing vocals, creating a collective force of brotherhood aside the happy-go-lucky demeaner. It’s a ray of sunshine, that surfs the farfisa waves of power pop and sidewalks amongst the scrapey sonics of post-punk.
