Album Of The Day – “Once Do It With Feeling” by Candy Coffins

Candy Coffins are an alternative rock band from Columbia, South Carolina, whose distinct and passionate music is ignited with a high voltage of energy that broods in an undergrowth of dark-wave. Comprised of Jame Lathren on vocals/guitar, Tom Alewin on guitars, Alex Mabrey on bass, Jonathan Bradley on drums/percussion and Justin Purdy on keys, Candy Coffins are great ambassadors of post-punk, its transition into new wave and its long-lasting legacy. They are a band whose striking riffs and jaunty angles place them on centre-stage of third wave post-punk, reviving the polished precision and showmanship of Indie-rock.

What is great about Candy Coffins is the sonic surges and vocal delivery creates a polarised caption of raw states that smoothly crosses over into an array of sub-genres. Through the fusion of synths and guitars, Candy Coffins nestle in the shadows of goth-rock, that glides in the moonlit waters of neo-classicism. Along with the tender lyrics, and wistful wails, Candy Coffins evoke a sense of kohl aesthetics, likened to The Cure, whilst emitting an individual brand of inflamed darkness.

Having been busy in the studio, Candy Coffins have released their album, “Once Do It With Feeling”, which has been selected as The Manc Review’s “Album Of The Day”. It’s a great album, which sees Candy Coffins continue to make music that is emotionally driven and percolates with an undercurrent of brooding intensity. It’s an album that stays true to the DIY ethos of Punk and pulsates under the bright lights of melodrama and burnt-out blues. It’s an album that wears its heart on its sleeve and leaves the petals of dark romanticism scattered over its blackened soul.

With an impressive 10 tracks, Once Do It With Feeling is an all or nothing outpour, steeped in sorrow and laced with the velvet veneer of all the great goth bands ever to grace our planet over the last 40 years. It’s an album that takes you straight back to a golden age of alternative rock and adds an individualistic spin.  So for anyone who loves the solitude of introspective innovation, the singed sentiments of vampires and the standing ovation of guitar-showmanship, then Once Do It With Feeling is an album for you.

The ‘Once Do It With Feeling’ LP is out now and is available on all digital platforms, including Spotify, Apple Music and Bandcamp, where it can be ordered directly from the artist.
