Last Tourist, on paper, may hail from Leeds, but musically they reside in the metaphysical realms of alternative rock. They are an otherworldly entity, gazing at the stars, whilst peering through the cavernous chambers of the moon. They are a mesmerising band, who explore, tour and navigate through the sonic stratums of post-punk, whilst shimmering from the strobe lights of new wave.
Comprised of John Wellby on vocals/ guitar, Adam Simpson on synths/programming, Nick Noble on vocals/ guitar, Jason Booth on bass guitar, and Ethan Rudd on drums Last Tourist are a band of cosmic wonder, mutating motifs and arcane ambience, that uplift and space travel through the multi-faceted soundscapes of Indie-rock. They are a band that swims in the primordial broth of proto-punk, sharing the same DNA pool of The Jesus and Mary Chain, Suicide, The Verve, Gary Numan, The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Spiritualized, DIIV and My Bloody Valentine.
Masters of fuzzy reverb, murky mantras and elongated elevation, Last Tourist drift effortlessly through the classic and contemporary timelines of noise-rock, whilst dancing in the meteorite showers of shoegaze. They are a band that levitates in the celestial skies of synth-pop, whilst floating in the dark matter of electronica. Through their spiked strums, spectral synths, and hypnotic vocals, Last Tourist cast shadows, light and spells onto the stage of synth-punk, picking up the plectrum from all the greats and continuing with their legacy.
Following the success of their debut single Public Service in 2020, Black Raven featuring Slowdive’s Simon Scott on drums, in 2021, the single Cave in the Hills in 2021, Lust in 2022, their cover of The Cure’s Lullaby in 2023 and their debut album, Last Tourist in 2023, the band have been in the studio working on new material. Slowly Fade, is Last Tourist’s latest single, which sees the band expand their horizon with a more cinematic soundscape.
Staying true to their musical roots, Slowly Fade is a captivating piece of work, whose opening vocals transmit from the space stations of shoegaze, whilst picking up the airways from art-rock. Featuring drums from Paul Kehoe from Peter Hook and The Light, Slowly Fade is a sublime track, whose delirious drones float with the dark debris of electronica, while being airlifted into the lofty heights of ethereal rock. Along with the pulsating beats, brooding bass and fuzzy frequencies, Slowly Fade astral travels through the translucent tunnels of darkwave, whilst sedated by the lucid lights of dreampop. A testament to the Last Tourist ever-evolving talent, Slowly Fade has been selected as The Manc Review’s Single Of The Month.
Slowly Fade is released in June 2025 and will be available via all digital platforms, including atm, bandcamp, Spotify, iTunes etc. A hard copy will be featured on the forthcoming album.
