Rain Cloud Nine transcends a beacon of light, that aligns with the cosmic cycles of life, that connects with visceral veins, and bloody-thirsty occupants of our collective soul. They are a band that permeates a mystical energy that lurks in the shadowy corners, and crevices of their subconscious self. They are torchbearers of alternative rock that illuminate the pathways of post-punk and wander wonkily into the wilderness of neo-psychedelia. Comprised of Robert Alexander (Butterflies on Pins, The Culture Dead) on vocals/guitar and Katie Green (Butterflies on Pins) on backing vocals/ bass, Rain Cloud Nine, are captivating sorcerers that cast spells with their misty-eyed music and chimerical charm. They are a wave of sundrenched sonics, that strum seductively with the demi-gods, bathing with the neo-nymphs, whilst baring its doom-punk angst in the murky waters of noise-rock. They are a hypnotic stream of earthy sensuality and euphoric etherealism that spin in a vortex of shoegaze and dive deep into the delirious depths of dream pop. They are a composed drizzle of emotion, that creates an impressionist, expressionist and fauvism-esque soundscape, with a pensive palette of hazy hues.
Formed in 2024, in London, Rain Cloud Nine unravel the esoteric fabrics embedded beneath the surface of experimental rock, that drape in the Batcave of 80s goth rock and woven by the diaphanous layers of Nu-gaze. They are a band that reboots the reverb pedals of My Bloody Valentine, and shimmers in the shadows of Siouxsie and the Banshees, and Joy Division whilst blending the otherworldly overlaps of Cocteau Twins. Along with the harmonising vocals, Rain Cloud Nine evoke a sense of melancholic introspection reminiscent of The Jesus and Mary Chain, whilst side-walking on the art-rock horizon of The Velvet Underground.
Following the success of their debut song Blush, released in 2024, the follow-up singles Ephemeral (2024), Swallow (2024), Anemone (2024), Bonfires (2025), She Saw Circles (2025) and their debut EP Feedback Scars (2025), Rain Cloud Nine’s latest single, Immaterial Boy, has been selected as The Manc Review’s Single Of The Week. Released on 11th April 2025, Immaterial Boy broods in the basement of noise-rock, hanging out in the arthouse of glam rock, whilst lingering in the corridors of new wave. Steeped in sentiments and etched in nostalgia, Immaterial Boy is a heart-on-sleeve catharsis that timelines the evolution of Post punk in one take. What could be the lovechild of Dinosaur Jr, Pavement, Joy Division , Siouxsie and the Banshees, Bauhaus, The Cure and Suede, embraces the grit and the stoney strums of the halcyon days of youth, whilst spiking with a heavy dose of ancestral darkwave.
