Single Of The Day – “Alone Again” by Ava Vox

Ava Vox is an alternative rock artist from Dublin, whose raw, melancholic and beautifully crafted music revives the haunting music from a prolific era of post-punk and goth-rock. As an artist, Vox leans from the same lineage of the pioneers of women in rock, whilst creating a hybrid of idiosyncratic operatics, bold prowess and atmospheric ambience.

Having debuted her music with her rendition of The Cure’s ‘Love Song’ and ‘Strange Days’, Soft Cell’s ‘Tainted Love’, David Bowie’s track ‘Life on Mars’, in February 2021, as well as her single “Crash” in December 2021, Vox has completed her debut album “Immortalised”. Released on the 25th March 2022, Immortalised eternalises the goth glory of post-punk, and whose latest track, “Alone Again“, has been selected as my “Single Of The Day”.

As a track, Alone Again captures the melancholy, and emotional vastness of new wave feminism, without screaming from the rooftops. It’s a track that reaffirms Vox as a bona-fide goth-queen, that descends from the totemic tribe of traditional icons of post-punk. She is an artist that oozes raw talent and re-plasters the mesmeric moulds of that all empowering female, whilst radiating with all its glamourous regalia.

Through the melodic riff, brooding bass and jangly riffs, Alone Again stays true to its post-punk roots, whilst unearthing the lost treasures of new wave. Along with the fluty synths and rumbling beats, Alone Again tilts towards the milieu of prog-rock, whilst evoking a sense of melodrama and vaudeville theatrics. A track that exudes vocal intensity and inflamed sentiments, Alone Again bears its cross with a grandeur of grace, and with a candle-lit ambience that shines from the shadows of ethereal rock.

As of March 25th 2022, the ‘Immortalised’ LP is available across online stores and streaming services,
including Apple Music, Spotify and Bandcamp. Together with her band members Agris Siksna (aka George), Rick Johnston and Nigel O’Driscoll, Ava Vox’s album launch takes place that same evening at 86 Thomas Street in Dublin.
