Single Of The Day - "The Mirror" by The Ember Glows

The Ember Glows are an alternative band from Montreal, whose rich vocals and iron-fisted riffs creates a formidable force of energy that unearths the roots of guitar-driven music. Comprised of Martin Saint (Vocals, Guitar, Keyboard), Richard Bunze (Lead Guitar), Kevin Hills (Bass) and Dan Stefik (Drums), The Ember Glows illuminates from the neo-lights of post-punk and scrambles through the sonic shadows of dark-wave. They are a timeless wonder, whose nimble-fingered riffs create an influx of virtuoso fluctuations, metallic mayhem, and sonic surges. Theatrical and fierce, The Ember Glows are a band that create an atmospheric backdrop of brooding emotion and smouldering sentiments, that delves deep into the ancestral origins of DIY punk.

Having received rave reviews of their latest EP “Where Spirits Play”, which was released on 23^rd September 2022, The Ember Glows have been gaining an expanding fan base and whose featured track “The Mirror” has been selected as my Single Of The Day.

An immaculate production, The Mirror merges from the midst of classic post-punk and reverberates from the ripples of new wave. It’s a melancholic mirage of fuzzy ambience and delirious drones, that wallow in the barren landscapes of alternative rock. It’s a stream of swampy synths and quivering riffs that tremble in trepidation aside the raw vocals and singed emotion. What could be an additional track from U2’s Unforgettable Fire, crystalises the guitar driven artistry of guitar-laden bands, whilst emerging from the dry-iced stage of stadium rock. It’s a superb track, that provides the missing link between the Celtic charm of U2 and Simple-Minds with the Indie-rock crooning of bands such as The Chameleons and Echo & The Bunnymen.
